NIGHTHAWK YOUTH BASKETBALL - FAQ's

Q.Who are the coaches for the teams

A.Coach Ron Whiddon & Coach Ken Boswell - 3rd and 4th Grade; Coach Raul Perez - 5th and 6th Grade; Coach Pat Antique - 7th and 8th Grade

Q.How many teams will the club have and what grades?

A.The number of teams we form is based on the number of participants attending tryouts that have the skill set to compete at the Club level. It is our hopes to form the following: 3rd Boys (1 team) 4th Boys (1 team), 5th Boys (1 team), 6th Boys (1 team), 7th Boys (2 teams), 8th Boys (2 teams)

Q.How long does the season last?

A.Our club program starts on or about September 1st and ends on or about June 15th. We have three (3) seasons during the 9 month period. All dates listed here are approximate and could start and end on a different date depending on league schedules. Fall season: Sep 1st- Dec 1st (or the date of the last scheduled game) Winter season: Dec 2nd- Mar 15th (or the date of the last scheduled game) Spring season: Mar 16th - Jun 15th (or the date of the last scheduled game)

Q.Do all kids who tryout make a team?

A.No, we will select no more than 10 players per team. We may have more than 1 team per division; however this will be decided during the tryout period.

Q.How many practices per week and where?

A.Two (2) basketball practices per week and one (1) sports performance enhancement training workout per week. All workouts are held at RedLine Athletics in 4S Ranch unless otherwise announced.

Q.What days are practices and how long?

A.Practices are normally held on Mondays - Fridays and last 90 minutes unless the coach notifies families should they practice longer. We occasionally will have a practice on Saturday. We do our very best to keep all grades/teams practicing on the same nights each week, however there will be some weeks when practices will be on a different day than normally assigned. The monthly practice schedule is typically published two weeks prior to the start of the month. We do not schedule out more than 45 days as it is very difficult to know what gym time is available to us.

Q.When are games played?

A.Games are mostly played on Saturdays with an occasional Sunday game.

Q.Can a player attend tryouts but not join a team until winter?

A.All players are encouraged to attend our tryouts, however we do ask that if they are unable to play in the fall season, this needs to be brought to the attention of the coach. There are no guarantee’s that a spot will be held for this player but we will allow the player to come back in the winter and be re-evaluated for a spot on the team.

Q.When will we know if our player made the club team and how will we be notified.

A.All club team rosters will be announced by email. Due to the large number of players participating in tryouts, it is optional for the coach to make personal phone calls. If your player made a club team, he/she is expected to attend the first Club practice on Aug 30th or 31st.

Q.Can a player participate in 2 sports knowing there are possible conflicts?

A.We will allow a player to participate in our club if he/she is also participating in another sport. We do ask that they attend as many practices and games as possible. While we do realize that fall is football & soccer season, and spring is baseball & softball season, we will understand should these sports be the player’s first priority. We will also expect that in the winter season, basketball be their first priority over any other sport.

Q.Is there an expected participation commitment?

A.Our expectations are that all practices, sports enchancement training workouts and games are attended. We do understand that school and other activities can cause for absence. We request that this be communicated to the coach in advance so practices can be planned accordingly.

Q.What payment method does the club accept and how much is the membership fee and?

A.Payment is made by credit card. Payment will be made quarterly on Sep 1st, Dec 1st, Mar 1st. The cost to participate will be $425 per quarter (3 months). We will still offer a sibling discount of 10% off the second and third child. We no longer accept monthly payments.

Q.Are players required to have a Redhawk reversible jersey

A.Yes, all players of the Rehawk Basketball are required to have a jersey. The jersey is included in the initial membership fee. Any returning player needing a new jersey would have to pay $25.00 for the jersey.

Q.Are players guaranteed to play in all games?

A.It is always our goal to ensure players participate in all games. There are circumstances that would preclude players from participating in games, i.e. many absences from practices, illness, negative attitude, etc. The parent is always encouraged to communicate with the coach regarding these matters.

Q.If a player is selected for a team, is he/she guaranteed this spot for the 9 month program season?

A.While it is our normal practice to keep players on the team for the entire 9 months, we do reserve the right to remove or add players at the end/beginning of each quarter should the need arise.

Q.Should the player attend all tryout dates?

A.It is not mandatory but highly encouraged. The more tryouts a player has could serve to his/her benefit.
